We use both 3/8" and 1/2" glass for our shower enclosures. 1/2" is used when required in order to comply with industry standards and guidlines.
Clear glass has a greenish hue while looking through it, as well as a darker edge color.
Low Iron glass ungoes a process where most of the iron (causes the greenish color) is removed. This results in a clearer glass. The clarity refers only to the glass while looking through it. The edge of Low Iron Glass still has color to it, although it is not quite as dark as the edge of clear glass.
The color of the edge gets darker as the thickness and size of the glass increases.
Yes, there are different levels of Low Iron glass. There are lesser quality low iron products that can be purchased at a lower cost. As with everything else, "you get what you pay for".
Some types of Low Iron Glass that offer ultimate clarity are a little more expensive. They offer optimal clarity while looking through the glass panels.
Starphire Glass, OptiWhite, and UltraWhite are some of the brand names used to describe a higher quality low iron glass product.
Yes, we do use silicone to seal our Frameless Shower Doors. We seal along the bottom of glass panels on both the interior and exterior of the glass. We also seal along the vertical walls when necessary. Eventhough we use a silicone sealant, this does not mean that no water will escape the enclosure during a shower.
By their design, Frameless Shower Enclosures are not meant to "contain" water. They are designed to be aesthetically pleasing and offer water deflection during a shower. There are spaces beteen glass panels and around the hardware where water can find its way.through, especially when being sprayed down with a handheld sprayer.
No Frameless Shower Enclosure will ever contain all of the water inside of it. Please be conscious of where water is being directed from inside the shower to help minimze the amount of water that will escape the enclosure.
We use a mildew resistant silicone when sealing our showers. Often times the black or dark discoloration that occurs on silicone is not mold, nor is it mildew. There are many chemical based cleaners on the market that will have a reaction with the silicone sealant and create dark spots/areas. Unfortunately we cannot warranty against this occurance. We cannot monitor the products being used to clean the enclosures. We suggest doing some research to see what types of cleaners are best to use. Basic soap and water is always a safe bet. Avoid all abrasive cleaners as they can disturb the silicone bead, as well as scratch/scuff the surface of the glass.
We do not warranty against glass breakage. Our warranty covers the craftsmanship and labor. We also pass along the manufactures warranty on the hardware we use. Most of our hardware comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty. For certain finishes that we need to acquire.from a different supplier we offer their 3-5 year Warranty.
We cannot warranty against glass breakage. We are not their to make sure that that the glass is being treated properly. We do ask that you please be conscious that it is glass and meant to be handle and operated with care. You should not be slamming a glass shower door the way you may forcefully close a wooden door in your home.
All shower doors are made from tempered safety glass, which is 5x stronger than regular plate glass. Even-though it is much stronger, and able to withstand greater force, it is still glass, and glass can break.
Now that your new shower door is installed, and ready for use, you want to maintain it so you can keep it looking beautiful!
We recommend using a squeegee after each use. This is the best practice and habit to get into. This will prevent water from settling on the glass creating spots and staining. It will also help prevent dirt and soap scum build up.
For cleaning or "washing" your shower glass we recommend a soft sponge with soap and warm water, then drying the glass with a micro fiber towel or cloth. Ammonia free glass cleaner can also be used to clean the glass.
It is suggested to stay away from any abrasive cleaners or sponges, as these can disrupt the surface of the glass, and/or hardware, as well as the silicone sealant. Some chemical based cleaners with have a reaction with the silicone causing a discoloration. Often times people will mistake this reaction to mold or mildew build up.
If you have opted for one of our protective coatings to be added to your new shower door, we suggest registering the product with the manufacturer, and following their suggested cleaning recommendations.
The most important thing to keep in mind is consistency. Caring for you glass on a regular basis is the best practice. That will not allow calcium deposits from water, dirt, and soap scum to sit on the glass for a period of time. If left on the glass surface for any period of time these will start to absorb into the glass surface and overtime begin to etch and affect the glass surface.
If you have any questions you can always reach out to us to clarify any concerns you may have. We want you to enjoy your new custom shower door for many years to come, ideally keeping it looking as close to new as possible!
